LIKE is an IndieFlix Original documentary that explores the impact of social media on our lives and the effects of technology on the brain. The goal of the film is to inspire and help equip us to self-regulate. Social media is a tool and social platforms are a place to connect, share, and care… but is that what’s really happening?Did you know…
Around 252 million people in the US have smartphones. That’s 77% of the US population.
Around 783 million people in China have smartphones. That’s 55% of China’s population.Newzoo: Top 50 countries by smartphone
Social media affects our lives in ways we might not even realize:
- Mental Health – The goal of social media is to keep us “connected” 24/7 but is actually disconnecting us by increasing stress and anxiety as well as reducing sleep.
- Children – Training children to base their self-worth off of “likes” encourages them to compare themselves with others around them and creates constant FOMO (fear of missing out).
- Social Relationships – Virtual interactions such as “likes” or “shares” have taken precedence over face-to-face interactions.
- Democracy – Seeing the news through a filter skews our worldview and divides us.eas by Center of Human Technology
